One of the first questions every client asks is how long the project will take. Here are realistic timelines based on hundreds of residential rendering projects.
Typical turnaround times
- Single exterior render: 3 to 5 business days
- Single interior render: 3 to 5 business days
- Full 3D model of a house: 5 to 10 business days
- Complete package (model + 8 to 10 renders): 2 to 3 weeks
- Floor plans only: 2 to 4 business days
These assume you provide usable source material and respond to review requests within a day.
The three phases
1. Modeling (60 percent of the time). Building the 3D geometry of your house from your plans or sketches. This is the longest phase and the foundation everything else depends on.
2. Materials and lighting (25 percent). Applying realistic materials, setting up daylight or dusk lighting, adding landscaping and context.
3. Rendering and post-processing (15 percent). The computer generates the final image, then an artist fine-tunes color, contrast and details.
What causes delays
The number one cause of delay is not the rendering studio. It is slow client feedback. A project that should take one week stretches to three when each review round takes four days. Other common delays:
- Changing the design mid-project (new layout means remodeling)
- Vague initial briefs that require guesswork
- Missing measurements that have to be estimated and later corrected
How to get your renders faster
- Send dimensioned plans or accurate sketches up front
- Include 3 to 5 reference images showing the style you want
- Approve the gray 3D model before rendering begins
- Consolidate your revision feedback into one clear list per round
- Tell the studio your hard deadline at the start, not at the end
Rush delivery
Most studios offer rush service at a 25 to 50 percent premium. A single render can usually be turned around in 48 hours if the model already exists. Building a model from scratch on a rush timeline is possible but expensive, so plan ahead when you can.
